Hello and happy Thursday to all! This is yet another review from my spring break trip to visit Madison. After seeing a Broadway play, Mean Girls to be exact (it was amazing and we highly recommend seeing it by the way), we wanted to go to a nicer dinner afterward as many people do. I looked online for restaurants nearby and found many good looking options. What pulled my attention to Cielo at the Mayfair was the minimal amount of walking I had to do to get there from the theatre. Haha just kidding. It was actually the unique style of the restaurant and the beautiful lights hanging from the ceiling.

The interior, with its stone walls and wooden floors, was dimly lit and made you feel like you were in another world. However, like most NYC restaurants, it was pretty small. Now, this usually doesn’t bother us one bit but what did bother us was when we got seated literally a foot away from one of the only other groups in the restaurant. It felt really awkward to be that close to someone else and hear every word they were saying because it was so quiet in the restaurant.

As for the food, I got the Farfalle Con Salmone. It was a delicious dish, fairly simple, but it was done right. The salmon was cooked to perfection and tasted very fresh. The pasta was also cooked well, and the sauce added the perfect flavor to it all. Madison got a meal from the nightly special menu. The dish was a risotto with a white wine and garlic sauce that had shrimp, chunks of sauteed garlic, and was sprinkled with pine nuts. The shrimp were cooked really well and they were HUGE! The risotto was maybe slightly undercooked but it didn’t take away from the dish itself at all. This dish didn’t have as much flavor as I would have liked but at the same time it was rather nice to have a simple dish with no frills. It was a very different dish than anything I’ve had before so overall I was pleased.

The service was quick without making you feel rushed which was a plus. But at the end of the meal, a pretty large tip was automatically added to our bill without our consent which was in our opinion very unprofessional. We have no problem with tipping but we would just rather have the option of how much to tip based on meal and experience rather than the maximum percentage.

Overall, we had a great time here and really enjoyed our meals despite the minor negatives of the night.
