DEWEY’S PIZZA- Cincinnati, OH ⭑⭑⭑⭑⭒

265 Hosea Ave, Cincinnati, OH 45220

Today’s review is a restaurant that I did not try for the first time today, however, I did try something new, so I thought it was worth reviewing it and the restaurant as a whole. Dewey’s Pizza is (as the name states), a pizza restaurant that was started in Cincinnati. The location that I usually go to is located about a mile off campus, so it is a great option if you are in the University of Cincinnati area and looking for a place to sit down and enjoy a meal. I like how the restaurant is set up because they have many tables that can be moved around to accommodate large parties, and they also have a large window that opens up to the kitchen where you can watch them make the pizzas.

As far as the service, I find that the Dewey’s Pizza staff is always very friendly. What is different from many restaurants is that they seem to help each other out a lot. During my meal today, and I have noticed this in past visits as well, we had many different servers come by and help us out. We had one guy grab our drinks, a woman who took our order, another woman who brought out the food, the first guy boxed up our food and brought the check, and a different man cashed us out. It is a bit different, but overall I like it because there is usually someone right there anytime you need something. Going off of this, I don’t think my drink has ever gone below half full in that restaurant, they are always right there to fill it back up!

Onto the good stuff- FOOD! Ironically, today was the first time I have ever ordered a pizza at Dewey’s Pizza (I will get into my usual order in a bit). I ordered the Dr. Dre Pizza which has olive oil, mozzarella, green peppers, red onions, chicken, bacon, jalapeños, tomatoes and is drizzled in ranch. WOW! The chicken, bacon, ranch combination is amazing, but they take it so much farther. The vegetables taste fresh and add nice flavors to the pizza. Also, the jalapeños add a bit of heat to the pizza, but it is not overwhelming thanks to the perfect amount of ranch layered on. Finally, the crust was cooked perfectly, crunchy, but not burnt, and the cheese was so delicious. Also, today I ordered a Strawberry Macadamia Nut Salad to start my meal, which is a seasonal item that they have right now. This includes field greens, strawberries, blue cheese, roasted macadamia nuts, topped with a raspberry poppyseed vinaigrette. This salad was good, the dressing was a bit too sweet for my liking, but no complaints. The strawberries were very fresh and went nicely with the macadamia nuts.

My friend, Tanner, ordered my usual, a Calzone. At Dewey’s their calzones come with mozzarella and ricotta cheeses, pizza sauce, and 3 toppings of your choice. Tanner asked for mushrooms, Italian meatballs, and pepperoni inside of his calzone. He said it was delicious, and I know from experience that you cannot go wrong with any of the toppings. They have a long list of ingredients you can put inside and I have yet to have one that does not taste fresh and/or add to the amazing taste of the calzone. Tanner also had a side Caesar Salad, which he said was good, but nothing special compared to others he has had.

Regarding the pricing, it is higher than normal pizza places, but I think it is definitely worth it for the quality and quantity of the ingredients. If you are looking for a cheaper option on the menu, I definitely recommend the calzone since it is big and is cheaper than getting a personal pizza.

Overall, if you are ever in Cincinnati (or anywhere else with a Dewey’s), I recommend stopping in and giving it a try. Let me know which pizza/toppings are your favorites!
