Welcome back! This review comes from one of the best Indian restaurants in the city of New York according to numerous websites: The MasalaWala. While one of my friends was visiting the city a group of us decided to go out for dinner and unanimously chose this place because we are all lovers of Indian cuisine and spice!
The restaurant itself was small and the tables were pretty close together so I could see how maneuvering between them could’ve been pretty difficult. The decor was pretty authentic and they had a lot of these orb like lights that I’m obsessed with right now (I have pictures don’t worry)! They also had large windows on the front of the building that helped to brighten the space as well which was very nice. The staff was very attentive and made sure you had everything you needed and felt well taken care of. The owner even came over and joked around with us for a minute which was nice. To me, it shows that they really care about their guests and value their opinions.
To start out our meal we decided to share a plate of Gobi Manchurian. I had never had this before and also wasn’t even sure what it was. I soon found out it is Cauliflower that has been fried and coated with an Indian-Chinese fusion sauce. This was very good and I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of flavor. It kind of reminded me of chicken wings but better! For the main course, we all got Chicken Tikka Masala because it’s hard to say no to something that good! I ended up getting the medium spice level which was about perfect for me because I like spicy foods but don’t want to implode from heat exposure. The dish itself was a lot of food but I wish the portion of rice was more proportional to the rest of the meal as I ran out pretty quick. There was a lot of chicken included which was great because I’ve definitely had this dish before elsewhere and had mostly sauce and not as much chicken. I would say this has been my favorite plate of Chicken Tikka Masala yet!
Overall I had a really good experience and got to try some really great food. The service was fast making it a good option for a quick stop to eat if there isn’t a wait for a table. I highly recommend this place if you love Indian cuisine or anything spicy!
